December 6-12, 2022

Monday I had a doctor's appointment.  I was able to leave work early on Monday, which was super nice because the crib mattress was supposed to be delivered last Saturday, so I was able to track it down.  I was able to locate it at a UPS pick-up point just up the street from the apartment.  They were open until 8 PM, so I could wait for Paul to come home to go get it.  While I waited for him to come home, I cleaned up the apartment.  When Paul got home we went to pick up the mattress.  I was excited to open it up and put it in the nursery.

Tuesday the bookshelf came for the nursery and I was so excited.  I took everything out of the box and got styrofoam everywhere.  I tried to put the shelves together but I got to the first step and realized that I would not be able to do this by myself, so I would have to wait for Paul to do it.  He was super tired on Tuesday, he got home and fell asleep by 8 PM.  I still had energy, so I wrote all my thank you notes for the Roberts shower that happened last Saturday.  I also did some meal prepping for the week.

Happy first birthday to Addie on Thursday!

Funny story, on Thursday I got a text reminding me to make a dessert for the ward Christmas party for that weekend.  I hadn't realized that the sign-up sheet I signed was for the ward Christmas party and not the Relief Society Christmas party.  So the RS party got some extra cookies that they didn't ask for haha.  On my way home from work I grabbed some butter and chocolate chips.  I made the dough while Paul was driving home and then baked them after dinner.

Friday I got a package of Usborne books from Wendy.  Thanks, Wendy!  Usborne has really great, interactive books for kids.  I am always blown away by what great quality they are.  Wendy also got second place for all her sales in October selling these books.  Great job!

I stopped by to get my hair cut before work because they said there was no wait but when I got there, I had to wait for an hour!  It wasn't a big deal though because my boss was out of the office with his kids for the day.  Well, that's what he said, but then he showed up at 3:00 PM.  So we did not get to leave early on Friday, which I was bummed about.  I had made plans to meet up with Floortje, a graduate student from the Netherlands whose husband is friends with Paul.  I thought I would be able to leave early but she was flexible with me arriving at her home around 6 PM.  We got some take-out from a new Hawaiian restaurant close by that was pretty good.  She just had her second child in August and she delivered in the hospital I am going to deliver at, so she walked me through her whole experience.  She told me about both of her children's births.  Some of it was information I had learned in one of the three classes I took through the University Hospital but a lot of it was new information and so helpful.  She is very sweet and it was nice to meet her.  She is stressed having a newborn, a toddler, and also trying to finish her Ph.D., especially when her mentor is not being supportive of her having children during her Ph.D.

Saturday we got up early and were able to get all our laundry done before the ward shower at 11 AM.  Paul went to lab while I went to the shower so he could come to the ward party later that night.   The shower was so great!  About 11 people came and we had some yummy food and played the price is right.  My ministering sisters put on the shower for me, Alissa and Mercedi.  Alissa's husband, Jordan, organized the game and he looked up the top baby products of 2020.  The experienced moms did much better than me at guessing the prices of the products.  I always thought the items were a lot cheaper than they were.  Then I opened gifts and everyone was so generous!  We got a lot of our bath stuff from our registry, some cute baby outfits, diapers, wipes, baby-friendly soaps, some books, and other gifts from our registry.  It was so fun and Alissa and Mercedi made these really cute decorations that they let me take home!

I went home and cleaned the apartment so when Paul got home he could build the shelves I've been excited about since Tuesday.  That was a good plan because the instructions were not great and since he didn't have to clean the whole apartment on top of building the shelves, he was a lot more patient with the process.  He did a great job!
He loved seeing what everyone got Mary at the shower.  The clothes were his favorite.  Once we were done with the shelves, we finished putting everything in the nursery.  Paul loves how the room feels and he will go in there to do his scripture study and hang out.  He said it is so calming and he is getting really excited for Mary to be joining us!  I think he is more excited to dress her up than I am!  It is very sweet.

We went to the ward Christmas party at 5 PM.  They had barbecue pork, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, funeral potatoes, and salads for dinner.  We put our cookies on the dessert table and they did really well!  There was only one left when we left for the night, and I'm sure it was eaten by the time they cleaned up the party.  A young couple in our ward came and sat with us and I asked which desserts they liked the best and they said the homemade chocolate chip cookies were the best (mine!) I didn't tell them that I made them but it made me feel good.

Sunday we went to church.  In Primary, we practiced Away in a Manger that the kids are going to sing in Sacrament Meeting for Christmas.  Two couples approached me at church and said they are going to be in town over Christmas, so we are all going to get together in a couple of weeks and have a little pot luck Christmas dinner together.  Then we got home and I wrote all my thank you notes for the ward shower.  Later in the evening, we went to the stake Christmas choir concert.
